Creative Workshops - Boro Boro Stitching
BORO BORO STITCHING WORKSHOP
Tuesday 30th April, 6pm to 8.30pm | Cost: £30 | Host: Lara Hailey
Reste, 58 High Street, The Old Town, Hastings TN34 3EN
Join us for an evening of mindful hand stitching and learn the art of visible mending and traditional Japanese repair work. This workshop explores the art of Boro. This term is derived from Japanese boroboro, meaning something tattered or repaired, referring to the practice of reworking through piecing, patching and stitching.
The objective of this class is to use Sashiko running stitch to repair or strengthen a piece of textile or item of clothing. A brief history of the technique will be discussed and examples and samples will be provided for your inspiration. Fabrics and threads will be provided but you may like to bring your own if you want to work to a specific colour scheme.
By the end of the session, you will have made a small stand-alone textile which could be used to repair an item of clothing in an attractive and unique way.
No previous sewing experience necessary, just a love of recycling, repairing and slow contemplative stitch, rather than fast throw away fashion!
Ticket includes a glass of wine, soft drinks and nibbles.
