COASTAL CURRENTS - THE ART OF NATURE IN THE HOME

BASKET WEAVING WORKSHOP

Wednesday 4th September, 6pm to 8.30pm | Cost: £35 | Host: Christiane Gunzi
Reste, 58 High Street, The Old Town, Hastings TN34 3EN

Join us for an evening of mindful weaving with natural willow, and a gentle introduction to the ancient heritage craft of basketmaking.

The evening will begin with a brief talk about willow, rush and other natural materials that are used in traditional basketry. You will be able to explore different materials as you start to do some weaving.

You will then be taught how to weave a simple, elegant ‘frame basket’ suitable for fruit, using a traditional weave in various tones of willow. This simple project is a very relaxing and enjoyable way to start basketweaving, and no previous experience is required.

Tickets include all materials plus a glass of wine, soft drinks and nibbles.

  • Christiane has an NVQ level 3 in Textiles from The City Lit in London, where she trained on The Basketry Course for two years. She has been weaving willow and rush baskets since 2008, and has run classes for beginners for several years. Christiane demonstrates the craft at Great Dixter each Summer, and her work is on sale at Great Dixter’s Christmas Fair. This year she has also been invited to be part of The Garden Museum’s ‘Beautiful and Useful’ Fair.

Booking is essential. Tickets can be purchased by emailing Christiane on christianegunzi5@gmail.com or we are happy to collect a cash payment in the shop. Please book early to ensure a place and to allow time for preparing and soaking the materials.
